This can be kinda difficult when you are new to the game. To level up the hero quicker you can buy the upgrades during any game. If you are playing on the easy difficulty then you will likely have to continue the game into freeplay in order to get the hero all the game to level 20. Once the hero reaches level 20 during any game, the achievement will unlock.
