You need a mace or other blunt weapon (baseball bat icon) to break rocks. Plenty of rocks can be found in the Wendigo cave south of the Desert Kingdom, and they respawn when you leave and come back. More rocks can also be found when climbing down the mountain going south from Clocktown.
