Beat Saber

Hello, and welcome to the walkthrough for Beat Saber. This game is quite popular in VR, and is actually quite fun. This game is also known for people downloading modded maps / levels from the internet. Fortunately, you do not have to do this to complete the game.

This walkthrough is meant to be a roadmap for what you should do to complete the game in the most efficient way. I will also provide tips on how to get better and accomplish this faster!

This game looks incredibly hard to play if you've seen the videos, but it's actually not that difficult. You should get the grips with it quickly after starting the game.

The achievement list is relatively simple to complete, with one really hard achievement and one long repetitive portion at the end where you play the same level over and over many times. With enough practice and patience, most people should be able to complete this game.

Here is the order we're going to go through the game in order to get all the achievements.

  1. Story Playthrough
  2. Free Play Levels
  3. Journey to 100,000,000 score / 24-hour playtime.
  1. Story Playthrough: This is where the majority of the achievements come from. You don't need to know anything going into this besides how to play as there's nothing missable and all of the achievements will more than likely come from natural play going through the story. If they don't, you will get them guaranteed in the Free Play section. The story levels that make you use one hand are really hard sometimes. I will do my best to explain the pattern but that's really just something that you just have to get used to.
  2. Free Play Levels: You will play through 15 levels on both Hard and Expert. (total of 30) These levels you need to get a full combo on (no mistakes) which will most likely give you an S rank. If it doesn't, I'll explain the scoring system on the next page. You will also have to SS rank an expert level, which is the hardest achievement in the game by far. I'll explain that once we get there.
  3. Journey to 100,000,000 score / 24 hour playtime: The playtime is calculated through time spent in the levels. It will not count the time you spend in the menu. This will come up once the play time in your stat page reaches 24 hours. 100,000,000 score can be obtained the fastest by playing one level over and over, but will still probably take many hours at the end of the game.

I'll tell you more about all of this later.

Completing this game will take between 25 and 35 hours. However, you will probably finish all of the skill related things in about 15-25 hours.

For the story levels that have you move a MINIMUM hand distance, you can pause the game right at the end (or any time) and just move your hands around until you reach the requirement. This is good because those are the hardest and most exhausting objectives.

For the story levels with a maximum hand movement, try to move your wrists as opposed to moving your entire arm.

Score System:

You may think that just simply hitting all of the cubes without mistakes would give you an SS rank. Unfortunately, this will most likely only give you an S rank. But the good thing is that you probably won't have to worry about this until you actually do go for the SS rank, as you will probably get an S rank along with a full combo. Obviously, don't hit cubes really lightly so you get 20 points. Still hit them decently hard and try to get as much as you can.

You can get a maximum of 115 points in one block. To get the maximum points, you need to start you swing 90 degrees above the block, and continue the swing until you're 90 degrees below the block. However, it seems like the score has very little to do with the actual rank, as I got 400,000 one time and got an S rank, and then I got 384,000 another time and got the SS rank. (I didn't even get a full combo) The important thing is that you're getting that 180 degree swing almost every single time, and you will get the SS rank with enough practice.

You will have to get 100,000,000 score at the end. You add to this score when you complete levels. When you restart/fail a level, it doesn't add to your score. For this reason, it may be worth playing levels through to the end every single time even if you miss your full combo or S/SS rank. I didn't do this because I wanted to get the skill-based achievements as quick as possible. When I finished everything else, I had 38,000,000 out of my hundred million. (38% of the way) Either way you want to do it is up to you.

The level I recommend that you play over and over is "Into the Dream" which is the first one on the 4th page in free play. It's the easiest and quickest one on the 4th page. Once you get used to this level, you can turn on the Disappearing Notes and Faster Level (and potentially even Fastest Level if you can handle it) modifiers. If you play it reasonably well, (you can miss as much as you need to though as long as you finish the level) you will get about 500-700 thousand every time you finish it, with the level taking about 3-6 minutes depending on your speed modifiers. You should use at least the Disappearing Notes and Faster Level modifiers because they'll give you 115% of your original score. So that means it's a 15% bonus, and it also helps get the level over faster.

The good thing about this game is that you can play through the whole campaign without needing to look at the walkthrough once I get you started. This is good because it's a pain to look down at a walkthrough every 5 seconds in a VR game.

Let's get started on the walkthrough!

MAIN STORY

Upon starting the game, be sure to do the tutorial, even if you know how to play it. It only takes a couple of minutes. There's an achievement tied to this!!!! If you skip it, you can revisit it later through the main menu.

The first step here is to complete the main story (ALL levels) as stated before. It starts off very easy and simple, and most levels raise in difficulty as you get better so for most levels you won't have a problem completing them. You don't have to worry about any special objectives or anything; just complete all of the levels in the story mode.

  • Just do your best, don't get worried if you don't get perfect swings or full combos yet. They aren't required until much later. Focus on completing the levels!
  • For the story levels that have you move a MINIMUM hand distance, you can pause the game right at the end (or any time) and just move your hands around until you reach the requirement. This is good because those are the hardest and most exhausting objectives.
  • For the story levels with a maximum hand movement, try to move your wrists as opposed to moving your entire arm.
  • For the story levels that make you use one arm, the rhythm is almost always to move your hand in a very small circle quickly. This is really just something you need to get used to, but once you figure it out once they will be a breeze.

If you have any more questions about this mode or any part of this game, please message me on TSA! I check it often.

Congratulations! You completed the main story! Time to move onto free play!

FREE PLAY

Go to free play on the main menu. We are going to start by getting full combos and S ranks on 15 different hard levels. Start at the first page. Play every level from the top down on the first two pages (first page has ten and the second page has five. Once you get to the third page, the difficulty takes a huge spike.) in order on HARD difficulty. (you can select difficulty above the "play" button)

These levels are pretty easy to do, really. A few tries should be enough to get used to the patterns.

If you miss a note, restart. Try your best to swing as well as you can. Full combo will most likely yield an S rank, so just try to hit the notes with a little force and you'll get plenty of points. If you somehow don't get an S rank at the end, restart the level.

After completion of the first two pages with S ranks and full combos, you will get these.

  • Precision

Get rank S on at least 15 different levels on hard difficulty (solo free play only).

    Precision
Offline Mode - These achievements require play in game modes that do not necessitate a connection to any online services.Single Player - These achievements can be obtained by a single player.Difficulty Specific - These achievements require that the game be played on a certain difficulty level.

  • Drum Kit

Get full combo on at least 15 different levels on hard difficulty (solo free play only).

    Drum Kit
Offline Mode - These achievements require play in game modes that do not necessitate a connection to any online services.Single Player - These achievements can be obtained by a single player.Difficulty Specific - These achievements require that the game be played on a certain difficulty level.

For both of these, you will probably have to play through an extra level. Doesn't matter if it's on the third page or replaying one you've already done. But it wouldn't unlock for me until I did that.

Now for the expert levels, this is a little bit of a step up in difficulty. Same rules apply here as the hard levels. They'll just take a few more tries and require you to have quicker movements.

HOWEVER, on some of the levels near the end, they had really hard patterns which I could never get used to no matter what. This prevented me from getting the full combo. So what I did was pick a level off of the third page on expert and get a full combo on it. You probably won't get an S rank on them as they are much harder and faster, but I found it easier than the patterns in some of the other levels. Get your S rank on the ones you couldn't full combo. Even though you miss a few, you should be able to relatively easily get the S rank!

Upon completion of 15 S ranks and 15 Full Combos on Expert levels, you will receive:

  • No Mistakes

Get full combo on at least 15 different levels on expert difficulty (solo free play only).

    No Mistakes
Offline Mode - These achievements require play in game modes that do not necessitate a connection to any online services.Single Player - These achievements can be obtained by a single player.Difficulty Specific - These achievements require that the game be played on a certain difficulty level.

  • Hope

Get rank S on at least 15 different levels on expert difficulty (solo free play only).

    Hope
Offline Mode - These achievements require play in game modes that do not necessitate a connection to any online services.Single Player - These achievements can be obtained by a single player.Difficulty Specific - These achievements require that the game be played on a certain difficulty level.

For both of these, you will probably have to play through an extra level. Doesn't matter if it's on the third page or replaying one you've already done. But it wouldn't unlock for me until I did that.

Now, we're onto the hardest part of this game. The only thing that could potentially stop you from getting this completion:

  • Flawless

Get rank SS on any level on expert difficulty without any modifiers.

    Flawless
Offline Mode - These achievements require play in game modes that do not necessitate a connection to any online services.Single Player - These achievements can be obtained by a single player.Difficulty Specific - These achievements require that the game be played on a certain difficulty level.

You need beyond 90% "accuracy" to get an SS rank you may think that just simply hitting all of the cubes without mistakes would give you an SS rank. Unfortunately, this will most likely only give you an S rank. However, I'm inclined to believe this means 90% perfect swings or more, as obviously just getting a full combo won't get the SS rank. The actual requirements are unknown. You can get a maximum of 115 points in one block. To get the maximum points or a perfect swing, you need to start you swing 90 degrees above the block, and continue the swing until you're 90 degrees below the block. However, it seems like the score has very little to do with the actual rank, as I got 400,000 one time and got an S rank, and then I got 384,000 another time and got the SS rank. (And I'm pretty sure I didn't even get a full combo.) The important thing is that you're getting that 180 degree swing almost every single time, (Which is hard because the notes are really close together, just get as close as possible.) and you will get the SS rank with enough practice.

I did this on the level "Commercial Pumping" ,,,, I found this the easiest. (while it's still very difficult..) Remember, the point is to swing 180 degrees or as close to it as possible every single time.

With enough practice and lots of aggravation/physical exhaustion, you will be awarded with

  • Flawless

Get rank SS on any level on expert difficulty without any modifiers.

    Flawless

THE JOURNEY TO 24 HOURS/100,000,000 POINTS

If you've made it here, congratulations! There's nothing difficult now, just a little time investment.

If you didn't restart for the most part, (finishing levels even when you know you won't get full combo/desired rank) You will have potentially 70-80,000,000 total points or more. If you did restart, You will have 35-45,000,000 total points. (I had 38)

Depending on how long it took you to do the previous stuff, you could have gotten the 24 hour achievement by now. I was about 22 hours.

You can check both of these statistics in your stats menu which you can access from the main menu

You make progress towards 24 hours by time spent in a level, time spent in the menu doesn't count. You will most likely hit 24 hours long before 100 million though.

100,000,000....

I did this by playing the level "Into The Dream" on expert difficulty over and over. It's the first level on the fourth page. The modifiers will help out a lot with this. I personally used "Faster Level" and "Disappearing Arrows" for a score payout of 115%. The faster level modifier also helps to finish the level quicker. I got about 600,000-650,000 every single time in a 4-5 minute level.

You could also try "Fastest Level" if you can handle it, and get the level over even quicker. "Ghost Notes" was beyond my ability and simply not worth it to use.

You do NOT need to worry about performance while doing this. It helps, but there's no requirement that you need to meet. It'll just take longer.

Doing this got me about 10,000,000 every two hours!

After many hours, you will eventually receive:

Congratulations on your completion!

Again, feel free to message me on TSA if you need any help or have any questions. I check it often and am always ready to help.
