Valfaris First Gameplay Shows Landing Pad and Eco Chambers

By Rebecca Smith,
Steel Mantis' next title, Valfaris, is a heavy-metal inspired 2D action-platformer much like their previous title, Slain: Back from Hell. It tells the story of the fortress of the titular Valfaris, which disappeared from the galaxy under mysterious circumstances before reappearing in orbit around a dying sun. In the process, it has become home to an evil and increasing darkness. Valfaris' son, Therion, heads home to destroy the arcane forces that now plague the fortress by mulching them into as many pieces as physically possible. To give you some idea of what to expect, publisher Digital Uppercut has released a 30 minute gameplay video showing two of the game's levels.

Over the next half an hour, you'll see footage taken from the first two levels in the game: Landing Pad and Eco Chambers. The team has tried to avoid story spoilers, but you'll still see boss encounters. Players begin the game with a Plasma Pistol and an Energy Sword, but four more of the game's ~30 weapons are also on show — Therion’s Own, Hellwraith, Hellhammer, and Wolflight — as well as the weapon upgrades and save system. Finally, players get to sample some of the game's soundtrack written by ex-Celtic Frost guitarist Curt Victor Bryant, and this is accompanied by plenty of headbanging. Digital Uppercut's community manager Matt Cundy provides the commentary:

You'll be able to cause metal mayhem of your own when the title is released either later this year or possibly early next year. More details are promised on the game's story and I'm sure we'll be seeing more of the title before then.
