Attack of the Undead Begins in Call of Duty: WWII

By Rebecca Smith,
Earlier this week, Sledgehammer Games rolled out a massive update for Call of Duty: WWII. As well as the usual bug fixes and gameplay improvements, the main feature of the update was the introduction of the Attack of the Undead community event. In this event, zombies have crossed over into multiplayer, bringing with them three new multiplayer modes, new weapons, a limited-time multiplayer map, themed gear, and a new community challenge.

One of the three new multiplayer modes will be introduced each week. The current mode is Infected, where one player begins as a zombie. Their objective is to infect as many survivors as possible, while everybody else tries to stop them. The zombies win if everybody is infected before the timer runs out. The survivors win if they mange to kill all of the zombies.

On June 5th, Hordepoint will be introduced into the mix. Adding a twist to the traditional Hardpoint mode, the winning team is the one who can defend the point from both the opposition and the zombies. Then, on June 12th, Relic of the Undead will be the new game mode. The player who can keep the zombie relic away from their opponents for the longest amount of time is the winner.

Throughout the duration of the event, the zombie Groesten Haus map will be playable in multiplayer modes. New limited-time modes have been created for the tight map, the location for the first appearance of Nazi Zombies in The Final Reich.

Captain Butcher returns with seven new weapons — five ranged and two melee. The ranged weapons are the Blunderbuss, the Nambu Type 2 SMG, the Lever Action Sniper Rifle, the PTRS-41 Sniper Rifle, and the Stinger LMG. The new melee weapons are the Fire Axe and a "big f******" Claymore sword. He also holds limited-time Collection Reward weapon variants until the event ends. New themed gear includes Commando for the Airborne Division, Russian Engineer for the Armored Division, French Legionnaire for the Infantry Division, and Undead Warden for all divisions.

Finally, there's a new community challenge where all players have to do is to kill 3 billion zombies between them in either the multiplayer modes or Nazi Zombies mode. The rewards include the Tesla Gun Weapon that can already be found in the limited time game modes introduced with the community event. Take a look at the trailer below to see what exactly you can expect over the next few weeks.
