3. Pure Chess Grandmaster Edition Main Achievement List

First, let's load up a game versus a Level 1 AI for the sake of a few easy achievements.

Attempt to perform an En Passant. You should have learned about this in the Tutorial if you weren't already aware of how it works. The level 1 AI will usually move right into position for you to accomplish one. I suggest attempting this with the King's Pawn to start, and advancing whichever pawns you see fit after that. After performing the move you will unlock:

Online/Offline - These achievements can be obtained in either an online or offline game mode.Single Player - These achievements can be obtained by a single player.Versus - These achievements can be obtained by two or more players in a face off gamemode who have met the achievement requirements.

Alternatively, you can use one controller to control two "human" players to knock this out as well. Follow this move formation, controlling the white side (first to move)

If you were playing an AI, play out the remainder of the game normally, and over the course of winning you should unlock:

  • Check

Put opponent in check in exhibition game.

    Check

Win an exhibition game against the computer.

    Checkmate
Offline Mode - These achievements require play in game modes that do not necessitate a connection to any online services.Single Player - These achievements can be obtained by a single player.

You should be able to clear most of the board vs a Level 1 AI to promote a pawn as well. This is done by moving a pawn all the way to the other side of the board. If you don't, this is simple in a local match since you can clear the pieces out the way and allow your pawn to make it. This will unlock:

  • Promotion

Advance a pawn to the eighth rank in an offline game.

    Promotion
Online/Offline - These achievements can be obtained in either an online or offline game mode.Single Player - These achievements can be obtained by a single player.Versus - These achievements can be obtained by two or more players in a face off gamemode who have met the achievement requirements.

Load up a Local Game vs Human and play as both sides of the board. Make sure you are controlling White. Play out This game and on the 10th move you'll unlock:

Start up a new Local Game vs Human, and this time follow This game to unlock:

  • Epaulette Mate

Deliver checkmate where the king is blocked on both sides by his own rooks.

    Epaulette Mate
Online/Offline - These achievements can be obtained in either an online or offline game mode.Single Player - These achievements can be obtained by a single player.Versus - These achievements can be obtained by two or more players in a face off gamemode who have met the achievement requirements.

If you haven't already done so naturally (you should have already earned this achievement during the double check game above if followed exactly), go ahead and load up a game in any mode, and move the Queen, and the Queen Side Knight and Bishop as quickly as possible without moving your King or Queen side Rook. When every space between the King and the Rook is empty, perform a Queen Side castle to unlock:

  • O_O_O

Perform a castling move on the queenside during any full game.

    O_O_O
Online/Offline - These achievements can be obtained in either an online or offline game mode.Single Player - These achievements can be obtained by a single player.Versus - These achievements can be obtained by two or more players in a face off gamemode who have met the achievement requirements.

Head into Chess Challenges and go into the Tournament Mode. Play through the Tournaments until you hit a difficulty (there's only 3) that exceeds or matches your skill level. Load up a Chess Engine (there is one linked on the Hints & Tips Section). Play out the rest of the games to unlock:

After finishing this mode you'll have gathered a decent amount of PureChess Rating points. Go into Local Games versus Grandmaster Level AI. Make the move e2-e4 and offer a draw. Usually, the AI will accept. If they do not, offer another. If they don't accept still, restart the match. You'll gain a good amount of Rating doing this. The amount gained decreases the higher you get, but it will keep moving. Once you hit a 953 Rating, you'll stop gaining points for draws. Load up the same engine you used for the Tournaments and beat the Grandmaster AI until you hit 1000 rating, this will unlock:

  • Grandmaster

Achieve an Elo of 2500, or a Grand Master Pure Chess rating.

    Grandmaster
Online/Offline - These achievements can be obtained in either an online or offline game mode.Single Player - These achievements can be obtained by a single player.Versus - These achievements can be obtained by two or more players in a face off gamemode who have met the achievement requirements.Level - These achievements must be obtained by levelling up in-game components.

You should also unlock 'Piece Collector' while going for these:

Head into an online game and attempt to beat an opponent, use a Chess Engine, or find a friend to let you win. My opponent resigning wouldn't unlock the achievement for me, so I suggest going for a Check Mate. Luckily if you disconnect, which you will a lot, you can go right back into the game without it ending. Once you win you'll unlock:
