This is a spoiler-free review. A Date in the Park is a free point and click adventure title with hints of horror and mystery. You control a man named Lou, who has recently moved to Lisbon, Portugal from London, England. Being in the country for just a matter of days, Lou met Catarina, a woman that he really connected with, in a bar and agreed to meet her at her favorite park.

When it comes down to gameplay and mechanics, there's nothing that sets this title apart from the rest of the retro point and click crowd. It's everything that you would expect it to be. However, the 90's digitized photo graphics are a nice touch, and bring an overall nostalgic feel to the game. You will wander around the park in search of Catarina, while solving simple puzzles and enjoying the off-beat atmosphere that is abound.

So if the game is simple, and not really all that groundbreaking, why am I recommending it? Well, I can't tell you... that's the mystery. You truly need to find out for yourself. The heart of A Date in the Park lies within its unexpected twists and unsettling vibe. The game also does a good job at making you feel lost and helpless, since all of the people that you interact with reply in Portuguese while Lou only knows English; of course this effect isn't the same if you actually do know Portuguese. The game is free, and it only lasts 30 minutes, so you've really got nothing to lose but half an hour if you don't enjoy yourself. However, I can't foresee that happening. Go ahead and give A Date in the Park a shot, and enjoy the enigma within.

Rating: 3.0/5.0 - Average, can take it or leave it.

From Cloak and Dagger Games comes A Date in the Park. Released back in 2014, this is a free, point and click mystery horror game. Within this game, you play as Lou, who has recently moved to Lisbon in Portugal. He has met the wonderful Catarina in a bar, and he agrees to meet her in her favourite park the next day. Many reviews promised a thrilling mystery horror game... but I have never been more bored in my life.

This game was quick to complete, a quick little 37 minutes that would have been a lot quicker if I hadn't gone the wrong way and got completely lost the first 10 minutes I played for. The achievements are relatively easy to get, and if you can't figure out how to get one of them, the walk through that can be found on Steam by lylat and Pink Monkey really helped me sort some of them out.

This game's graphics are horrible. I know, I know it was a homage to the 90s, and of the graphics back then, but this just hurt my eyes. 90s games don't hurt my eyes like this did. They were just obnoxiously painful to look at. The design of the park isn't all that great either, and I didn't enjoy the scenery like a lot of other players did.

Lou was a bit of a weak character, especially at the end - Hey, let's just walk at a casual pace like we have been the whole game. The plot twists were easily expected mainly from the fact that one review I read said to "brace yourself" and the overall ending was just really easy to guess. It wasn't scary, there was no mystery to it, and I couldn't wait to be done with this. I didn't even want to finish it for the achievements, but I decided to push through anyway.

Seriously, save yourself 40 minutes by not playing this game. Find a game you know you will love and enjoy and that is actually fun. I regret deciding to play this because I saw it in another friend's completed game list.

A faux-90s point-and-click adventure game, A Date in the Park is a game about a dude who goes to a park in Portugal to meet up with a girl he met the previous evening. When he’s there, he ends up having to follow a few clues to finally meet up with her.

This game is, frankly, pretty boring until you get to the end of it, at which point there’s a twist. Sadly, the twist is all there really is to this game; there’s nothing else really here. The twist is rather out of the blue, though there is some arguable foreshadowing for it; still, it is bizarre and frankly, it just wasn’t worth the time I spent on it to experience the twist.
